on being twins

Hey!

I'm looking for poems or literary stuff about being twins or just twinhood in general. ESPECIALLY about the Number One Question asked twins: "So, do you guys fight?"
I guess that's not such a problem for adults, but we're 17 now and we used to get that question just about every time anyone looked at us. It was awful.
Actually, we are fraternal (although both girls). I guess the Number Two Question would be "So, are you identical?" One would think it would be obvious that NO, we are NOT, but some people can't get it.

Anyway, whatever you can send in would be fun. It would be great to hear from other twins as well. Thanks a lot... 8)

Maybe you could nix the awful stigma of twins caused by those dreadful Olsen Twins!

Shuddering at the thought of the Olsen Twins
and fearing their future releases

I found lots of poems/articles/etc by searching Google on 'twins +poems.' No guarantee of quality.

I think that my answer to 'Are you identical?' would be 'Yes, but we look different.'

How about: "I'm identical, but she's not."

===

I looked for TWINS in the Bartleby.com database but I found mostly poems where "twin" was a metaphor for virtues or thoughts that go well together.

Then I looked for SPECIFIC twins. I looked for Castor and Pollux... Romulus and Remus ... and got mostly war poems.

(It didn't even occur to me to look for the Olsens! I'm so ashamed!)

Actual poems written by actual twins for their actual sisters:

These are written by mother sof twins:

(Beware of that last one. Adorable photo of twin babies; terrible music.)

After reading your post, I had to let you know I am also a fraternal twin. However, we are brother and sister. And, yes, 99% of the time I am asked if my brother and I are identical. You are correct, some people can't get it. And, well, I am much older than 17 and still getting the question. Humor has helped me over the years. Good luck on your poem search and with the inevitable questions of the future smiling smiley

Is it being dreadfully ignorant to ask, "Who are the Olsens?"

I'm not sure I wanted to follow that link. I think I need a stiff drink (or shouldn't I say that here?)

Shouldn't say what? Drink? or Stiff?

I envy your lack of exposure to the Olsen Twins.

NO! It is being blessedly concerned with things that matter.

The Olsen sisters (they don't like being called "the twins" any more) were child stars on a TV sitcom. They played a single character. (U.S. law requires twins for situations where a single child might be overworked.)

Now they're pretty but not-very-talented teenagers and media darlings.

When I was a youngster I watched that sitcom EVERY WEEK! I loved it. I was a child, mind you.....but I never would have guessed that out of all the members of that cast....it would be Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen to be the richest. Good thing they turned out pretty.

There was nothing wrong with "Full House" (the sitcom)--aside from the fact of being a so-so sitcom. It was about adults and kids who made their family life a priority even when there were "grown-up" things going on. Given the nonsense that gets drilled into people watching silly TV, that's NOT BAD. A kid could watch it a lot without soaking up any nasty messages.

I have no objection to Full House....it's the constant Olsen Twins Media Barrage that gets to me after a while.

Also, one of my best stories involves John Stamos, so what can I say?

Hey thanks everybody, I'll have to check out some of those links.
Thanks for your comments, Another Twin. I'll brace myself for the stares...but really, people aren't trying to be stupid. They merely ask the same questions that have been asked of twins since the Dawn of Time.
At least we weren't triplets! "So....which one of you doesn't match the others?" pleeeeeeease!
And yes, being younger, I don't know how many times I was asked if I liked Mary-Kate and Ashley, the infamous two. Ick! I can't stand them!
Have to run now....thanks alot everyone for your input. I'll steer clear of any Olsen fansites.
