Stonehenge and Tolkien

This is a spin-off from the "Satanic Mills" thread.

FIRST: Comedian Eddie Izzard says of Stonehenge: "It's one of the biggest henges in the world!" Then he says: before Stonehenge there was (of course) Woodhenge and Strawhenge... but you can image what happened to those.

SECOND: and seriously, before we get too far from the topic of Stonehenge, I have a question for those of you who have read THE LORD OF THE RINGS. There was SOMETHING in one of the books that made me think, "He's describing Stonehenge! He [Tolkien] means that Stonehenge is the last physical remnant of Middle Earth!"

And now I can't remember WHAT made me think that, though I vaguely recall it was the entrance to something.

Does this ring any huge stone bells?

Hmm....I'll have to look.......I still need to find the good food song, so maybe over the weekend.

besides, MERLIN built Stonehenge !

ps LOVE Eddie Izzard...I saw that bit.....too funny !
