I've heard "po-et-tree" and "poy-tree" and "por-et-ree" and I only want to say that in my opinion the word POETRY ought to sound as if it includes the word POET.

Poetry about the Body as Landscape

Leicxky--would you be interested in PROSE about the the Body as Landscape? Without waiting for a reply, I will direct you to some:

Jonathan Lethem essay that includes this: "My body seemed to me vast and ponderous, a felled redwood on the forest floor, a Sphinx poised in the sand." [www.randomhouse.com] />
Kurt Vonnegut's awesome novel MOTHER NIGHT has a long passage about the "nation of two" that the lovers create in their imagination, and how he superimposes a map of that nation on her body.

===

I think you'll find a lot of good stuff on Bartleby.com. I was going to try that, search the VERSE collection there for "body + mountain" and "breast + river" and things like that. First I typed in just "body" and up came a poem that begins: "MY body which my dungeon is..." To my great surprise, that's a line from RLS: A Child’s Garden of Verses!

The thing about Bartleby is: To search for a combination of words (say BODY and MOUNTAIN), you have to search for just the word BODY, and then when the hits come on screen, add the word MOUNTAIN to the search field (no plus sign) to limit the search.

A search for BODY and MOUNTAIN led me to a sexy Frost poem called "Putting in the Seed." So I think a few imaginative searches will get you lots of good stuff.

It seems that way, since we're a large country, but per town, we tend to have only one or two. Now newspaper buying in London- that's a treat!

If I have brought another reader to THE ONION, then my living has not been in vain.

And if Johnny Sansculo*and I can bring more readers to MOTHER NIGHT, then our livings have not been in vains.

There is a little-known film version of MOTHER NIGHT. It's the most faithful novel-to-film adaptation I know of. But I really can't imagine what the movie would be like to someone who didn't already know the book.

*Please, please, let that be short for "Sansculotte." The alternative is too painful to think about.

No sorry....it's as bad as you imagine ! It's my mob nickname...

Johnny No-Ass !

I'm constantly teased about it......I happen to think its fine but others with larger posteriors seem to find it amusing to point out my lack thereof !

and YES I have seen the movie of Mother Night and wondered EXACTLY the same thing.....what a person who never read it would think.

Johnny Some-Ass

and I read the Onion as often as I can !

Love "Our Dumb Century" best piece of satire since the National Lampoon "kennedy" issue of 1977 or thereabouts !

Yes, THE ONION does brilliant satire of life in today's U.S.A. ...

and satire is a DYING ART in today's U.S.A.

My favorite all-time ONION headlines:

President Asks Congress for $30 Million to Fight Criticism.

Area Girlfriend Still Hasn't Seen APOCALYPSE NOW.

(can i say "Moon"?)

and dont say "Emily Dickinson" here or you'll get hollered at !

I think Colin Polyps's son is watching you !
