Please help,
I have in my possesion a book of poetry that was hand typed by a man named Ted Malone. It is a collection of poetry by various artists. All were a part of his own private scrapbook. This book is 70 years old. It was printed by Mr. Malone himself in 1935-36. With it are hand written pages of thoughts, and poetry of his own. This treasure was almost lost. My grandmother found it in the trash at a flea market in Paris, Texas as she went to throw something away. She knows of my love for poetry as I write myself. A gift passed on to me by her mother. She has given me this book. Being that it was typed up in 1935 I am sure that the actuall poems are much older. It would have been tagic if these works had been lost. I would very much like to know what I can do to preserve this collection. I do not have the knowledge to accomplish this task myself. I would like to know if anyone else is aware of the existence of this particular book or the man responsible for it, Mr.Ted Malone. It is entitled " Between The Bookends " From Ted Malone's Scrapbook, Copied 1935-36. If you have any information or advice that may be helpfull I would truely be very gratefull.

If you go to and enter Between the Bookends as the title to search, it appears that there are inexpensive second-hand copies of this book available. At a quick glance it appears that they were commercially published in the 1940s, so perhaps your copy is an original early draft or first edition. As such it might have collector's value. I'd take it to an antiquarian bookshop and ask. Of course it might also contain items that didn't get included in the later published versions. If it's falling to bits, it might be worth making a back-up photocopy.

And BY COINCIDENCE, Ted Malone is mentioned in another thread on this very forum, because he edited an anthology called YANKEE DOODLES which contains the "American History" poem by Winifred Sackville Stoner, that is being sought hither and yon (hither on eMule, yon on Quote-Unquote). I've ordered a copy but it's not in yet.

Thanks for the advice. I did look at Bookfinder.com. They have the first editions listed as being published in 1946. This says copied, 1935-36, From Ted Malone's Scrapbook. I am really interested in the history of this book. I have learned some interesting things about Ted Malone thanks to your advice IanB. I appreciate it. I have the names of two people who previously had this book. As well as the addresses where they lived at the time, because of postcards that were inside it. I am currently on a hunt to locate these individualls in hopes of learning more. The book i have is 88 pages. I don't know how that compares to the published books of later dates. Thanks again, Amanda
