Has anyone read or heard of George Kalamaras? He teaches writing at Purdue University Indiana University in Fort Wayne, IN. Anyhow, he came to my school, Indiana University of South Bend and gave a reading. I bought his book "The Theory and Function of Mangoes" He's very experimental, which is not really my cup of soup, but I took advantage of having him autogrraph my book. He also spoke in our poetry class, and he signed my book "To Talia. Thank you for your kind words and the light of your face". A reall charmer.

He said that he saw the Gwynth Paltrow movie "Sylvia" and loved it. He said it was not at all Hollywood. I noticed in the Target flyer a few weeks ago it's now out on DVD (already?!) Has anyone else seen it? I think I'm gonna call my local video store and see if they have it, although it's a little 1-horse town and robably don't.

New to me also. What's Kalamaras in Greek - squid?

Not exactly my cup of Earl Grey either, but he writes in contemporary style:

Have you tried Netflix for DVD rental? They're apparently offering a free trial. (doesn't do me any good- I'm a generation behind on technology.)

Yes, Sylvia has been round over here.

I had been hoping they'ed made a decent fist of "Cheaper by the dozen" since I had enjoyed the books so much, but the reviews were so bad I decided to give it a miss.

I felt the same way about 'Cheaper.' I think the only thing they used from the books was the title.

When I started taking management classes, I was amazed to find the Gilbreths mentioned. He/they really did invent something!

The original version of 'Cheaper' (with Clifton Webb) was better. That dates me!

Having just read the comments on IMDB for "Cheaper" the 1950 film is the one I want. I wonder if it will make it on to TV on the back of the remake?

I would take anything I could find, though seems I can't find anything.

Hugh, If you see it let me know if it's good enough to buy.

NONE of them are gudenuf to buy. It has been my experience that the surest way to never watch a particular movie again is to buy it. Patience until it is rentable, or comes on cable for free, that's the way to go.

Quest For Fire was the only exception I have found to the 'no buy' rule.
