Sounds like a pretty open-ended assignment. You could choose poems that you LIKE and illustrate them ... or you could think of things you want to draw and then look for poems about them. There are poems out there about EVERYTHING.

Here are some poems that conjure up draw-able images for me, but that doesn't mean that YOU will find them draw-able!

THE DAFFODILS by Wm. Wordsworth (guy lying around home, remembering these amazing flowers)

Shakespeare's SONNET CXLIV (guy torn between two lovers, one dark and one fair)

ELETELEPHONY - read it at:

MY LAST DUCHESS by Robert Browning (guy showing another guy a portrait of his deceased wife)

18 JUNE 2022 by Dag Hammarskjold - posted on this forum at
[www.emule.com] />
Robert Frost: STOPPING BY WOODS (horse, cart, snow) and THE ROAD NOT TAKEN (fork in the road)

Shakespeare, THE PHOENIX AND THE TURTLE. (To avoid embarrassment, note that the "turtle" in this poem is a bird, a turtle-dove.) Union of two in one.

Yeats, THE SECOND COMING - "rough beast ... slouches towards Bethlehem"

Anything in Stevenson's A CHILD'S GARDEN OF VERSES.

Rochester: On nothing. A perfect excuse for handing in a blankpiece of paper.

Oh! And that poem we discussed, about the snow weighing down the branches of a plant and a black cat coming inside. Was it Browning?

How about Thomas Hood's Past and Present - he describes the house where he was born and the garden so well you could draw a version of it quite easily.

A loose haiku is just like a regular haiku, but without an obi.

Or perhaps it's a haiku that hangs out on street corners a lot.

Don't MAKE me take off my belt! (as my father was [obi]wont to threaten)

From that link it seems that a loose haiku is one that has shed a few syllables

I had a loose haiku once, but 3 visits to the chiropractor and I was as good as new.

Who's your chiropractor? I spent yesterday afternoon gardening on a steep slope and most of my haikus became so loose, they fell out!
