Sorry, I am looking for German lyrics to this piece of music by Schumann. Very grateful and Happy Holidays to all.

I just called my dad, who is a classical pianist. He says there aren't any words.

"Traumerei" is one piece in a suite of pieces called "Kinderszenen" (usually translated "Scenes from Childhood"). It was originally written for solo piano. It has been arranged for violin with piano. As far as my dad knows, it has not been arranged for voice and piano.

Of course, there's nothing to stop someone from writing words to it. But I had a look at the sheet music and it looks un-singable to me.

In case you were wondering if it really was the same REVERIE, here's supporting evidence:

... but on this album I think it's performed in VIETNAMESE! I couldn't find a translation into English, but bear in mind that an English-language version might have a totally different title.

Jacques Larue also co-wrote several theme songs for French movies, and he wrote the words to "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White," which was a hit for the Andrews Sisters, and recently "the Dutch orchestra, Polytour ... recorded song texts set to music by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. The texts were written in French in 1943-1945 by well-known lyricists such as Jacques Larue and Lawrence Riesner."

"Jacques Larue" was actually an ALIAS used by Marcel Argenon -- possibly to keep his "serious" work separate from his work for the movies and for pop singers. (I found that tidbit on a website for Peggy Lee, who recorded at least two songs with Schumann melodies.)

The Mystery of Traumerei

I grew up hearing my mom sing this song which she called 'My Love'. She knew no music. It was only later on in life, that I knew of Traumeri. I then asked her about it. Her reply was that it was a popular love song which she learned as a child. How it all came about? I don't know; but here are the words I learnt as a child.

A few years back I played a tidbit from a minor opera ("Jocelyn") as incidental music for a church service, and one of the elderly members of the church came to me afterwards, very excited, because she remembered HER mother singing the melody as a popular song: "... and [something] let my arms enfold you..." So I told that story to my dad, and HE remembered his aunt playing the same song.

The memories that music taps can be very old and very powerful.
