Dear Forum-goers,
Some ne'erf-do-well has absconded with my DOROTHY PARKER COLLECTION and I need the short poem called (I think) "One single perfect rose."
Does anyone have it handy?
Blessings,
Marian

Dorothy Parker
A single flow'r he sent me, since we met.
All tenderly his messenger he chose;
Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet -
One perfect rose.
I knew the language of the floweret;
'My fragile leaves,' it said, 'his heart enclose.'
Love long has taken for his amulet
One perfect rose.
Why is it no one ever sent me yet
One perfect limousine, do you suppose?
Ah no, it's always just my luck to get
One perfect rose.

Okay, money and jewelry is one thing, but stealing your Dorothy Parker? That's just wrong!

a riend of Mrs. Parker, Margaret Fishback wrote, in 1932 :
I wish I diddn't give a damn
For sbles, mink, or Persian lamb.
But God made me a woman so
I do, in case you want to know.
-
My mother taught me to be good
At least as good as I was able,
Otherwise I think I could
Dress in ermine, mink or sable.
