Go to google search engine, type in "poems about despair" and you will get lots of hits. If you want to save some time, read some of Sylvia Plath's work.

Here's an example of Plath's work:

Edge (written shortly before death)

The woman is perfected.
Her dead
Body wears the smile of accomplishment,
The illusion of a Greek necessity
Flows in the scrolls of her toga,
Her bare
Feet seem to be saying:
We have come so far, it is over.
Each dead child coiled, a white serpent,
One at each little
Pitcher of milk, now empty.
She has folded
Them back into her body as petals
Of a rose close when the garden
Stiffens and odors bleed
From the sweet, deep throats of the night flower.
The moon has nothing to be sad about,
Staring from her hood of bone.
She is used to this sort of thing.
Her blacks crackle and drag.

See if there's something you can use here:

"Poems of Glory, Disillusionment and Despair 1914-1945"

[www.biblehelpsonline.com] /> (Psalm 22, the one Jesus is said to have recited while on the cross, is about going see-saw between faith and despair.)

"The Desolate City" by W S Blunt
[www.poetry-archive.com] /> (It's pretty desolate, but if it's not desolate enough for you, there's a link to a few other poems by the same guy.)

Not Waving But Drowning
by Stevie Smith

Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.

Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he's dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.

Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.

Despair
By: Angelia Allen

When I look
at the sky,
I just want
to cry.

How can such
beauty,
allow me to
do my duty?

It is such
a bland task,
How am I to
do it I ask?

The answer i
do know,
I have to put
on a show.

I will make
them believe me,
then I will let
them see.

They will be
struch in awe,
to see their
plans fatal flaw.

Their world will
crumble round their feet,
they will bow
in defeat.

Their humbleness
I will enjoy,
down to every
girl and boy.

My name is despair
I'm their master,
Their lives will
end in disaster.

There is no
answer to despair,
unless they
choose to care.

But of that I
don't have to worry,
for even their mother
they would burry.

"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."

~The Great and Powerful Angelia~
