Since this is the General Discussion I decided that I want to discuss something general.
Here it goes.
My favorite word is "Free." It is absolutely beautiful. It means so much. It is so small. It sounds nice ringing in the ear.
Okay, so what's your favorite word?
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."

Look this one up in your Funk and Wagnall's
sesquipedalian Hint: It's used a lot by William F. Buckley, Jr.

I quite like 'verisimilitude'. And 'tetotalitarianism'.
They're not easy words to fit into poems or song lyrics though.

Will we know when the light has gone out? I'm sure it will be a relief to us all.
TJ
Rikki-
Tetotalitarianism is that like rule by the non-drinking class.
Les
yes Les, you guessed it!
it's from a song by Nick Cave (that master of eight and nine syllable words) called 'God is in the House.'
he probably made it up; but i like it anyway.
r
I am sorry that you feel that way. Unfortuneately you will have to wait a while longer. Sorry!
Oh, and have a wonderful day!
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."

Wonderful words. I like a challenge. Tony is such a nice person, isn't he? Let's keep this going.
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."
~The Great and Powerful Angelia~
Okay Les.
Sesquipedalian-
A long word.
1.Given to the use of long words.
2.long and ponderous; Polysyllabic.
I think that you are a sesquipedalian! Ha! Ha! Ha!
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."
~The Great and Powerful Angelia~
Verisimilitude-
1.The quality of appearing to be true or real.
2.Something that has the appearaance of being true or real.
Interesting, eh?
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."

Very delightful. Rikki had the same word. It is an interesting word isn't it?
Are you true or real?
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."

I prefer "freedom" over "free".
The population is too small to get any groupings. Nice thought-I'll
still go for reciprocity-perhaps reciprocity puts the free in freedom.

Maybe. I do enjoy reading your words. I suppose freedom is not that bad. I still like freedom though.
Did everyone have a happy fourth?
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."
~The Great and Powerful Angelia~
well, it is a vague question, but i like ur topic. word, can i ask a question first? meanings of a word are there becasue of the existence of the word, or the word is there because of the the unamed emotions, objects, and anything like that? My favorite word is FLY, because it has a meaning of my own.
Well, I guess my favourite word is 'chocolate', since it produces Pavlovian drooling in me every time.
On the other hand, the playwright Dennis Potter felt "elbow" was the most beautiful word in the language. Can't say it does it for me.
Elbow?! Are you serious?
Some of my favorite words:
Persnickety
Quaint
Impertinent
Sable
Embodiment
Eternity
Infinity.....and a whole bunch more.
desire
PS Keeper, I'm writing a poem on freedom for you.
I will enjoy reading your poem. I also like some of your words.
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."
~The Great and Powerful Angelia~
My favorite word is humility. It is my personal opinion that between it and patience many things would go much more smoothly.
Are you humble? Are you patient? I think perhaps not. That is why nothing goes too smoothly.
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."
~The Great and Powerful Angelia~
Why so cruel dear sister? I know I am not so humble and I'm not the most patient person but I am trying to do better.
Cruel? I have no desire to be cruel. I think that perhaps it is good that you are trying to do better. What is all of this "Dear sister" stuff anyway?
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."
~The Great and Powerful Angelia~
I am your Brother. We have the same parents. You're the only sister I have. Ring a bell?
Yes I know that. What's with the dear? I'm not used to being called that. Most would say that I am not so dear!
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."
~The Great and Powerful Angelia~
You said it. Not me.
HA! HA! HA! THAT WAS SIMPLY FUNNY! NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."
~The Great and Powerful Angelia~
I thought so.
OH, you didn't think that it was funny either? What a pity! I don't really like the word humility anyway. It is way to hard for me to comprehend. Afterall, I am the younger and smarter of us.
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."
~The Great and Powerful Angelia~
Really, why don't you two just go out on the patio and talk? Seriously
Well, well... favorite word?
Context is everything. I love the word "slut" the way Kristen Scott Thomas says it in "Four Weddings and a Funeral."
I love the word "Auntmarian" the way my nephews say it--kind of like "amp-Marian."
I love the word "desperado" in the song by the Eagles.
And I have - I admit it - a great fondness for words of many syllables, especially when words of fewer syllables will do. Why say "old" when you can say "antideluvian"? Why say "bad" when you can say "reprehensible"? Incontrovertible! Ambidextrous!
And then there are neologisms. (Why say "newly invented words" when you can say "neologisms"?)
My current favorite is the word invented by Will Ferrell, doing a wicked impersonation of James Lipton: "scrumptrilescent."
One of my past favorites was a word coined by a woman on the news, complaining about complicated voting ballots. She said they should be "simplerized."
========
When I was 12, I took a poll of my own, asking everyone I could find to come up with a favorite word. I recall the answers falling into three categories:
--Words that mean something good (love, freedom, etc.).
--Words that sound nice (Candelaria was one person's choice; it's the name of a street in the city where I lived at the time).
--The names of loved ones.
Possibly he was bending that elbow- and his second favorite word was 'Scotch!'
pam
ROFL! Oh, and there used to be an ad on telly here where a woman described placing a bet as being a "tromplicated" procedure. I still use it; it sounds so much more complex than "complicated".
I like slovenly, because it sounds nice, I am, and it has love in it.
Complicated...
Tromplicated...
How about encomplicationized? (A bit of onomatopoeia.)
We are not around each other. That would be rather difficult.
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."
~The Great and Powerful Angelia~
Always getting good words! Anyone else? I'm sure you can find an odd word in the dictionary. I don't think that we have used them all!
"Loving people is like farting in the wind; You don't actually accomplish anything, but you feel better."
~The Great and Powerful Angelia~
The street I live on is called "Topinabee". I think it is associated with the Native Americans because some other streets nearby are Cherokee, Mohawk, Techumseh, Potowanamie. Does anyone know what Topinabee is and the correct way to pronunciate it? I always say Top-in-ah-bee, my husband says tope-in-uh-bee.
The website for a town in MICHIGAN says:
Topinabee, (pronounced: TOP ‘n-uh-bee), is located on beautiful Mullett Lake in Mullett Township.
Pronunciations do change over time. If you're interested in the "original" and/or historical pronunciation(s) of the name, try sending an email to the public library there:

Where was Moses when the light went out?
...In the dark.
Better to light a candle than curse the dark.
Is that free as in "free additives" the engine detergents in the petrol I put in my car?
Or is it "additive free" like the lunch I put in my stomach?
Oh, don't deprive me of my rantings. If I have no dark to hate then how can I see the light?
