Hello all,
I am searching for a particular children's poetry book that I had when I was younger. I had it in 1980, so the copyright would be somewhere around there. The book was an over-sized hardcover with a blue binding and a cream cover. I do not know the title or authors, but it had Lewis Carroll's The Jabberwocky, as well as a poem about an elephant who uses a telephant, or is it a telephone and an elephone? It also had a poem about a boy from Italy. The book had very colorful illustrations and had a large collection of poems from various authors. If anyone knows the name of this book, I would love to hear from you!
Thank you.
by parts maybe we'll get there ...
the second poem is by Laura E. Richards
Eletelephony
By Laura E. Richards 1850-1943
Once there was an elephant,
Who tried to use the telephant-
No! no! I mean an elephone
Who tried to use the telephone-
(Dear me! I am not certain quite
That even now I've got it right.)
Howe'er it was, he got his trunk
Entangled in the telephunk;
The more he tried to get it free,
The louder buzzed the telephee-
(I fear I'd better drop the song
Of elephop and telephong!)
Here's her hometown library with information about her. They might know publication information on her works.
Another reference might be a good children's librarian.

Sorry- forgot the links-
This one is for Powell's books in Oregon. It has 267 poetry books listed, most with photos. Perhaps one of these is yours.

Hi I am a seventh grade school teacher doing a unit on poetry. our text uses Jabberwocky, but some of my student seemed to have a hard time dealing with the translation/meaning. I remembered the elephant telephone poem (from my second grade reader 1962) and sat about to locate the poem. so hopefully i am saving you some time.
it is Eletelephony by Laura E Richards
