Kiplings poem reffers to the captain that lead the charge in Africa that may have resulted in the Boer war. This is a fantastic poem and well worth all the priase, but does anyone know of greater information that found on the history of the poem itself.

Search for [Kipling + Jameson + Rhodes] and you'll get plenty of historical essays tying things together, such as:
