I've just found David Alpaugh's super poem here:

Can someone explain the title to me, please.

MacNeil-Lehrer is a nighly newscast on public television here in the U. S. It is a show watched by mainly "enlightened" individuals and those with means. As opposed to newscasts on the commercial networks here who cater mostly to the rest of us.

Ahem, ahem. I agree with Les that "MacNeil-Lehrer is [or anyway WAS] a nighly newscast on public television here in the U. S."

Also relevant to the poem:

It was a news analysis program that goes into depth on a few current events or issues for an hour rather than attempting to do a world gazette in 30 minutes. It had a decided leaning to the left, HOWEVER, "Gergen and Shields" were commentators from opposing political wings who offered contrasting views on a chosen topic (point-counterpoint) on each program.

After McNeil retired the show became "The News Hour with Jim Lehrer." Still pretty much the same show.

Nice work. I liked 'California Ad Man' as well.

Marian / Les

I can understand the occasional misspelling by ONE of you.
But BOTH of you must know that it is NIGHTLY!

THat's what happens when one person types too fast and another person cuts-and-pastes a quote from the first person!
