Looking for a poem on love and friendship to give to an ex lover to say that we can still be friends. Can't we ?

Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye

I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm,
your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm,
yes, many loved before us, I know that we are not new,
in city and in forest they smiled like me and you;
but now it's come to distances and both of us must try,
your eyes are soft with sorrow;
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.

I'm not looking for another as I wander in my time,
walk me to the corner, our steps will always rhyme;
you know my love goes with you as your love stays with me,
it's just the way love changes, like the shoreline and the sea,
but let's not talk of love or chains and things we can't untie,
your eyes are soft with sorrow;
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.

I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm,
your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm,
yes many loved before us, I know that we are not new,
in city and in forest they smiled like me and you,
but let's not talk of love or chains and things we can't untie,
your eyes are soft with sorrow;
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye.

Thanks Rikki that was delightful and brought a wee tear to my eye.

Love and Friendship
by Emily Jane Brontė

Love is like the wild rose-briar,
Friendship like the holly-tree --
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms
But which will bloom most contantly?

The wild-rose briar is sweet in the spring,
Its summer blossoms scent the air;
Yet wait till winter comes again
And who wil call the wild-briar fair?

Then scorn the silly rose-wreath now
And deck thee with the holly's sheen,
That when December blights thy brow
He may still leave thy garland green.

Michael Drayton: Since there's no help, come let us kiss and part.

"Kiss and Part" says "it's over, BUT..." It reminds me of the song "I wish you love," sung by Nat King Cole: "I don't love you... not much." It's about pretending to feel okay about the break-up.
