What's happened?

Every morning for several years I check the happenings at Emule. However, the past few months, discussions seem to be less and less. Although I seldom have anything to contribute, I enjoy reading what others comment about. What has happened to those lively chats? Where is everybody?

KD61:

Emule has experienced several severe technical problems during the past 2-3 years. It was unavailable on a number of occasions for long periods of time. Each time the problems were corrected, months of postings were lost and users were required to acquire new logons...a task that is at best cumbersome. This caused many contributors to abandon the mule for good. That is truly unfortunate because the contributions, discussions, debates, etc. were truly lively, interesting and informative. ...more so here than on any other website I've visited.

Here is just one example of how the technical problems have so frustrated one of this sites most knowledgeable and entertaining contributors:

"Clearly, the bozos running this site are too incompetent to be endured any longer. I will be running along, but thanks to all I have heard from here for some interesting discussions, and best of luck to everyone in the future."

Hugh Clary (6/28/07)

I hope at some point Hugh, and others like him, do return. Their passion for poetry is sorely missed.

Joe

Hugh Clary got totally fed up with the constant server crashes, and true to his word, he hasn't come back since he expressed his disgust.

Others have drifted away due to the difficulties in re-registering, or for other reasons.

I usually won't start a discussion, but will toss in the occasional comment, but that doesn't work if there's no initial discussion

Perhaps the most annoying part of the many crashes and subsequent restarts is the fact that many postings/threads were lost, especially in the last restart. Several months worth of conversations were virtually wiped away.

I have no idea whether these threads still exist in the catacombs of the mule somewhere, or whether they have been lost forever. But I do believe that it is this aspect of the crashes which ired Hugh and others.

Well, after a long sojourn in academia, I came back to see who's here. I had to invent a new "me", though!
Hello, old chums.

And this is about the third me. There's not many of the old gang left, in fact there's not many of us posting at all these days.

How are you? Been doing anything interesting?

Stephen good to see you back on board. I have had no contact with the administrators of this site, though I assume they still monitor things from time to time.

I hope you're doing well with the University studies. We miss your wisdom and advice here at the mule.

Hi Linda and Les and any of the old gang still around.
Sorry to hear Hugh Clary jumped ship. He was a miserable old sod, but I'll miss him.
Me, I have six months of this University lark still to do. Unless I trip up, I shall have a degree at the end of it, and relax for a bit. Should have more time for emule.
Lorna and I are still looking after Guide Dogs for the Blind, and it takes up an increasing amount of our time: but it gives us a reason to be. Grandchild number 12 is well on her way, too: so a large and hungry family keps us on our toes.
How about you lot?

Stephen

Delighted to see you back. As you are one of the early pioneers on this site, and one of its finest contributors, your presence has been sorely missed by us veterans. Keep plugging away at university so you can devote a bit more time to the mule. Congrats on grandchild number 12. I believe you last reported there were 9....time flies.

Stephen-

Good to see your name on the board again.
Now let's see something over on USP.
