High school poem

I could use some help identifying the author and title of a poem I remember reading in high school. Some of the verses go something like this...

Carry her down to the river, carry her down to the sea
Let the bully boys stare at her braided hair but never a glance from me

Off she ran with her lover, tall as a tree and gay
Soft as a mouse he came to my house and stole my love away

Please forgive any mistakes. I've done some searching on my own but have come up empty handed. Any ideas?

Did you ever get an answer to this?

I have a book of poetry that contains this poem. I used it for an illustration project at school many years ago. Thing is I have a few books so have not bothered to start searching in case it's a pointless exercise.

If you are still looking for an answer, let me know and I'll start digging for you.

Rad:

When you love what you're teaching and let it show,it makes all the difference in the world. Nothing enthuses an audience like enthusiasm. If you don't love it, don't teach it.
