Sonnet CXVI
by: William Shakespeare
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
I'd recommend Shelley's, " Love's Philosophy."
sorry there shouldn't be an 'l' at the end of that url -it just ends in htm
Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person,
having neither to weight thought
nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together,
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keeping what is worth keeping,
and with a breath of kindness,
blow the rest away.
--Dinah Maria Mulock Craik--
Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Marriage Morning
Light, so low upon earth,
You send a flash to the sun.
Here is the golden close of love,
All my wooing is done.
Oh, the woods and the meadows,
Woods where we hid from the wet,
Stiles where we stay'd to be kind,
Meadows in which we met!
Light, so low in the vale
You flash and lighten afar,
For this is the golden morning of love,
And you are his morning start.
Flash, I am coming, I come,
By meadow and stile and wood,
Oh, lighten into my eyes and heart,
Into my heart and my blood!
Heart, are you great enough
For a love that never tires?
O heart, are you great enough for love?
I have heard of thorns and briers,
Over the meadow and stiles,
Over the world to the end of it
Flash for a million miles.
I do believe that God above
created you for me to love
he picked you out from all the rest ,because he knew id love you the best
now i know my heart is true for i give it all to you
so please take care of what ive done for you have 2 and i have none
when i die and go up there ill wait for you on that golden stair
if by judgment day your still not there ill give the angles back their
golden harps, wings and all those things
to prove to you my love is true ill go to hell to be with you
i dont know who that is by its just something i remember

Let's see if we can help one another, I know the "old saying" not sure if it's considered a quote or poem? I'll write it below and if anyone can tell me who the author is or what the title is? I find this to say many things & I see it as pure gift of love being given of one's own free will, which as we all know is wonderful. I also think it implies what marrige & vows we take are meant to be "forever" when you are in love! Maybe you'll like it as much as I do? hope it helps. here it goes to the best of my memory.
"If you love something set it free, if it comes back, it's yours forever, if not it was never yours to begin with."
to me this is so simple, not only a pure gift of a lifetime, but I feel something wonderful when I read it! hope you like it too or find something you like as much as I like this.
If anyone can tell me who the author is or weather it's classified as a quote or poem I would appreciate it. Thanks.

How about this poem, written by Richard Armour in 1906:
ENTICER
A married man who begs his friend,
A bachelor, to wed and end
His lonesome, sorry state,
Is like a bather in the sea,
Goose-pimpled, blue from neck to knee,
Who cries, "The water's great!"
