On Being Asked For A War Poem
by William Butler Yeats

I THINK it better that in times like these
A poet's mouth be silent, for in truth
We have no gift to set a statesman right;
He has had enough of medding who can please
A young girl in the indolence of her youth,
Or an old man upon a winter's night.

To eliminate terror Islamic,
Let's send them two presents atomic,
   With Medina the first
   Where the mushroom will burst,
Then Mecca, for loss astronomic.

Well, that's what Teddy Roosevelt wudda done anyway.

Whatever their cause
it is now indefensible
they're judged by their actions
so damned reprehensibile

If not for these bombings, there was a CHANCE that the G8 would have put some real effort into addressing world poverty. Once terrorism topped the bill, every humanitarian item on the agenda became an "also" item.

We need more "Live Aid" and less political rhetoric.

Can't say I agree on the live aid. It sounds good, but is no solution.

Tol' ya so...
My dance partner about 10pm (NYC time) 7/7/05 I mentioned that NYC did not get the Olympics, London did. I told her that I am not disappointed because of possible bombings. My sincere condolences to all the Brits, for their tragic losses.

Sad and miserable people, and likely paranoid psychizophrenic, tend to make their mission one to bring others down to their level of unhappiness. If not inherantly so ill, those on the fringe can be easily brainwashed and "flipped". To me it is even more unfortunate that all this take place under the color of religion... (dont' get me started...)

And the scary thing is, it is often people that fit right in. There was a murder some time ago in the netherlands (in the name of religion), and the boy in question was fully integrated, had good prospects, etc. But he got in the hands of some fanatics apperently. How, why? It is really scary.

And I feel so sorry for all the majority of good islamitics and/or arabs, that condemn these actions just like we do, but are still treated badly and with suspicion because of the actions of a few fanatics.
