If i could catch a rainbow

My boyfriend sent me this peom that he says he wrote. I didn't question it at first because he does things like this rather ofter. I now have an entire folder of poems that he has written just for me. But then I got a forward from a friend (my boyfriend and this person don't know each other at all) with a poem that she really liked - it was the same peom the my boyfriend claims he wrote. Here's my delema, i have gone on serveral cites to try to find the true author of this peom but i can't find it anywhere, so i decided to give this site a try. Here's the peom:

If I Could...
by: ???

If i could catch a rainbow
i would do it just for you
and share with you it's beauty
on the days your feeling blue

If i could, i'd build a mountain
you could call your very own
a place to find serenity
and place to call your own

If i could take your troubles,
i would toss them in the sea
but all these things i'm finding
are impossible for me

I cannot build a mountain
or catch a rainbow fair
but let me be what i know best
a friend who's always there.
___

so can you help me? This has been bugging me for some time now and i would really appriciate some closure. Thanks for your time and effort.

If your friend's name is Sandra Lewis Pringle, she wrote the poem, otherwise it's probably a not too studious rendition of this original:

If I could catch a rainbow
I would do it just for you.
And share with you its beauty
On the days you're feeling blue.
If I could build a mountain
You could call your very own.
A place to find serenity
A place to be alone.
If I could take your troubles
I would toss them in the sea.
But all these things I'm finding
are impossible for me,
I cannot build a mountain
Or catch a rainbow fair
But let me be...what I know best,
a friend that's always there.

I agree with you, Ilza. I wondered about the writing, but I'm not familiar with either author, so Gibran sounded plausible to me. I yield to your greater ability at this. I apologize to Lize to any confusion I may have caused her.
